Academic Paper Summary

Image
The paper, titled, 'Teachers of Students with Learning Disabilities: Assistive Technology Knowledge, Perceptions, Interests, and Barriers", written by Atanga et al. (2020) explores the application of Assistive Technology (AT) in education. It provides results of research of the demographic of students in elementary and middle schools and highlights the benefits of assistive technology to students with disabilities, providing methods by which teachers can utilize and apply these software to the learning environment. The authors of this text provide factors that impact the use of Assistive Technology (AT), including the lack of exposure of the university teachers, and teachers' confidence with the application of AT. While, this paper explores the applications and challenges of AT in education, it is pivotal not to disregard the  several other benefits this field possesses in various other sectors.

Case Study (Conclusion)

Case Study (Conclusion) In conclusion, the presence of  Assistive Technology (AT) in care institutions and homes protect the lives of the aged. My major project explore the benefits and applications of assistive technology, and this area of mobility devices for care institutions and homes is another application of AT,  with its own numerous advantages. In order to also explore more areas of application, I structured my survey questionnaire to provide information as to the demography and applications of AT across professions, ages and genders. Proceeding in this case study would involve research into other  more defined areas, for example, elementary schools, or gyms, and analyzing the use of AT in these fields.

Case Study (Discussion)

Case Study (Discussion) The case study in the previous post has successfully highlighted the importance of Assistive technology to both the members  of staff and aged people. With the innovation of such technology in homes such as that, Assistive technology has brought forward benefits including safety and control, increased staff experience and a low maintenance fees.

Case Study (Method)

Case Study (Method) (A case study from ATtoday.co.uk) The owner of a care home in Wolverhampton, West Midlands, acted swiftly to incorporate assistive technology when the home's elevator malfunctioned. Trisha Hayward, the owner of Inspirations, prioritized the safety and comfort of her residents by promptly acquiring a stair climber  (Sarsby, 2023) . With the three-story care home's elevator out of service just before Christmas, the necessary part for repair would take several weeks to arrive. Trisha had evacuation chairs in place for urgent stair transfers from upper floors. However, considering the prolonged duration of the elevator's repair, she sought a better solution for both residents and staff  (Sarsby, 2023). After conducting an internet search, Trisha discovered AAT GB. Within 48 hours of initial contact, AAT visited Trisha, demonstrated the equipment, fulfilled her order, and trained her care team to meet LOLER standards in operating the S-Max Sella stair cli...

Case Study (Literature Review)

Case Study (Literature Review) Mobility aids are assistive devices that assist individuals with disabilities or injuries in walking or moving between locations ( MedlinePlus, 2023) . These aids play a crucial role in facilitating mobility and independence for those who face challenges in their physical movements ( MedlinePlus, 2023) . By providing support, stability, and assistance, mobility aids enable individuals to overcome barriers and engage in daily activities with greater ease ( MedlinePlus, 2023) . Wheelchairs, whether manually operated or powered, are specifically designed to assist individuals with disabilities in their mobility ( ADA, 2023) . Manual devices like walkers, canes, crutches, braces, and other assistive tools are also included within this category ( ADA, 2023) . Additionally, there are alternative options that rely on battery, fuel, or other engines, which are utilized by people with disabilities for transportation purposes ( ADA, 2023) . Examples of such devices...

Case Study (Introduction)

Case Study (Introduction) For my case study, I shall explore the importance of mobility devices for the aged. Wheelchairs serve as a crucial means for thousands of adults and children to attain independence, enhance their well-being, and improve their overall quality of life (NHS, 2023). They play a vital role in promoting social inclusion and increasing opportunities in areas such as employment, education, and activities that are often taken for granted by those who do not require wheelchairs (NHS, 2023). At the end of this case study I would have discussed crucial contemporary topics in this field, and provide solutions to problems where necessary. Computer Methodology

A model  consistent with my major project theme (Benefits and Application of Assistive Technology) is the IMPACT2 Model. The IMPACT2 model supports the research, development, and implementation of assistive technology solutions. It helps in studying the effectiveness of technologies, evaluating user needs, and identifying suitable interventions for specific disabilities or contexts (Smith, 2016). By examining this model, we can not only see its approaches to the application of assistive technology (AT), but also the outcomes of implementing these technologies.
