Case Study (Literature Review)

Mobility aids are assistive devices that assist individuals with disabilities or injuries in walking or moving between locations (MedlinePlus, 2023). These aids play a crucial role in facilitating mobility and independence for those who face challenges in their physical movements (MedlinePlus, 2023). By providing support, stability, and assistance, mobility aids enable individuals to overcome barriers and engage in daily activities with greater ease (MedlinePlus, 2023).

Wheelchairs, whether manually operated or powered, are specifically designed to assist individuals with disabilities in their mobility (ADA, 2023). Manual devices like walkers, canes, crutches, braces, and other assistive tools are also included within this category (ADA, 2023). Additionally, there are alternative options that rely on battery, fuel, or other engines, which are utilized by people with disabilities for transportation purposes (ADA, 2023). Examples of such devices include golf carts, electronic personal assistance mobility devices like Segways®, and vehicles like all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) that are designed for use in areas without established public routes (ADA, 2023).

These mobility devices are an example of Assistive Technology (AT), which will be evaluated as my case study.
