Survey (Analysis)

Analysis of my Survey Questions

In order to begin collecting information for my primary research on the topic of Assistive Technology, I structured my questions to enable draw a meaningful conclusion, when interpreting the data. I had forty-four (44) answers to my questionnaire, and the analysis are as follows.

In order to retrieve information regarding the respondents' experience with assistive technology, I began my questionnaire enquiring what virtual assistants the user is accustomed to. Taking the lead, with 21 out of 44 replies was Siri, with 8 people using no virtual assistants at all. Because Siri is a virtual assistant used only with iOS devices, we can draw from this finding, that the most used device among these respondents is the Apple iOS.

From the next question, as shown above, I was able access the benefits of assistive technology to the  efficiency and convenience of its users. Only a small percentage disagreed with these benefits, and the largest percentage of replies was neutral. One may draw the conclusion, therefore, that virtual assistants, though widely owned may not necessarily be used by the same percentage.

While creating my questionnaire, I also considered the possibility of the users utilizing voice translation or Speech-To-Text (STT) software, and not virtual assistants. From the results shown above, however, we can affirm that there is a poor use of STT software among the respondents.

The results from the respondents to the previous questions are evident by this question. Owing to the fact that the majority of the respondents made use if iOS devices, it is therefore only logical that the most daily used devices are smartphones and tablets.

The next set of questions in my questionnaire were to determine the personas of the respondents. I collected information on career (above) and age (below).

The largest percentage in both results were the 'student' and '18-24' respectively. Alongside sharing my questionnaire link to fellow students, I additionally shared them with members of family and a few professionals, hence the other minority results. From these, we can deduce that the majority of students are between 18-24 years of age.

Finally, I collected demographic information on gender. From the chart above, we can see that the majority of respondents are male. This is because there is a larger male population among my fellow students and other respondents to whom this questionnaire was sent to.

Findings

Assistive Technology plays a pivotal role in various sectors. From my questionnaire, we can see the benefits of assistive technology on various people, and its various applications in an array of careers. While some devices may be used more than others, this is significantly due to the age range and disability (if any) of the users.
